COVID-19 Travel: India, Ghana, US Placed On Lagos’ Red, Amber Lists

May 14, 2021

Lagos State has released alert lists for Non-Nigerian travellers from selected countries based on the emergence of new variants of COVID-19.

The information was released by Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi, in a press conference on 12 May due to the thousands of travellers that land in Lagos from abroad every day.  The Federal Government has set out to begin enforcement of curfew and restrictions from Tuesday midnight 11 May in a bid to initiate “phase four” of the programme to reduce coronavirus spread.

The alert lists are in three types: “Red, Amber and Green.” The Red countries are countries with rapidly increasing cases of COVD-19 within the past seven days, Amber countries are those with active transmission of the virus while the Green are those with no clear increase in the number of daily confirmed cases.

While listing the fourteen countries that form the Amber countries like Canada, U.S.A, France, Germany, Netherlands, Togo, Ghana, Cameroun, Angola, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda, with the Green colour for all other countries, Abayomi disclosed that the State government would closely monitor inbound flights from the Red and Amber Countries and set parameters for the management of POIs from those countries.
